Step 1
Get the PD+Rescue software. Order it online, or find it at major retailers, like Target and Best Buy. Once you have the software, follow the instructions for installation. You will be required to have your iPod connected, so that the software can detect your music library.
-
Step 2
Open the PD+Rescue application. Make sure your iPod and all your music show up. If it does not, locate your iPod by clicking "File" at the top of the screen, and then click "Find All iPods."
-
Step 3
Recover lost or damaged files. Click "File" at the top of the screen, and then click "Recover Songs from Damaged iPod DB." Keep in mind that if you have lost files, an internal error or damage occurred in your iPod, it may not mean that your iPod is broken. If the errors continue, however, you'll want to have your iPod checked and repaired by an Apple professional.
-
Step 4
Read the information provided on the popup carefully. Make sure you have a hard drive large enough to back up your iPod with all the songs, movies, TV shows, etc. that are on it. If you do not, you can also use an external drive if you have it.
-
Step 5
Click "OK." The recovery will take place to find any lost or damaged song. Once the process is complete, click "Backup" to backup your iPod fully. This will ensure you have your songs safe from any future recurring damage.
-
Step 6
Go to iTunes with your iPod still connected. Click on your iPod name under "Devices," and then click "Check for Update" to reformat your iPod. Accept the update and click "OK." This will fix any previously minor damages. Click "Restore" in your iTunes to restore all your backed-up songs to your iPod. You will now have recovered any lost or damaged song to your iPod as well as fixed any errors that originally caused the songs to be lost in the first place.
