How to Change Desktop Icons in Windows XP

If you're tired of looking at that plain folder or desktop icon or prefer something that will stand out and be easier to find, there's an easy way to change desktop icons. Follow these quick and easy steps and your desktop or folder will have a great new look in no time.

      Right-click on the icon you wish to change. A shortcut menu will pop up.

      Click "Properties."

      Click on the "Customize" tab in the dialog box, then select "Change Icon." A button for browsing the hard drive to find icons previously downloaded from the Internet as well as a selection of icons will appear.

      Click on the icon you like, click "OK" and the plain file folder will change to the new selection.

      Change folder icons by right-clicking "Start" and then clicking "Explore" on the shortcut menu. Once the folder icon that needs to be changed is found, follow Steps 1 through 4.
