How to Install AC3 Codec

Often misunderstood due to an apparent irrelevant naming, the AC3 codec allows for audio playback of surround sound in formats such as 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound. Sometimes referred to as the "DTS codec," the AC3 codec is an imperative installation for those with surround sound hardware. The installation of the AC3 codec is an easy process that any computer user can perform.

Instructions

1. Download the AC3Filter. See the link in Resources for the download.

2. Double-click the setup program to begin the installation.

3. Select a language preference from the first dialog box that appears and click the "OK" button.

4. Click the "Next" button on the setup welcome screen that appears.

5. Select an installation directory and click the "Next" button.

6. Customize the installation parameters if desired on the "Select Components" screen and click the "Next" button.

7. Name the "Start" menu folder for the AC3 codec to be installed to and click the "Next" button.

8. Review the installation parameters you have chosen and click the "Install" button.

9. Click the "Finish" button once the installation has completed.

Tips & Warnings

• Restarting may be needed to have the software installation take effect, depending on how your computer is configured.
