Things You'll Need:
- Researched Keyword Phrase
-
Step 1
Do a Google Search with quotes around your keyword phrase, and take a look at how many search results there are. This is your competition for that keyword phrase, and needs to be evaluated carefully in order to evaluate your prospects when it comes to SEO positioning.
-
Step 2
Evaluate the results: If there are very few search results, you may be able to get your well-optimized article, etc. on the front page of Google results for that query with careful SEO positioning. If there are a lot of search results for that keyword, you may not be able to compete. In both, cases, however, it depends on the optimization of the results on the front page.
-
Step 3
Look at the results on the front page of your Google search, and understand their relationship to your SEO positioning. If there are e-zine articles, Yahoo Answers, wiki answers, or news articles over a couple of years old, you have an excellent chance of getting on the front page of those search results, no matter how many pages of results there are. If the front page is full of highly optimized articles, websites devoted entirely to your keyword phrase, etc., you are unlikely to get on the front page, even if there are only a few hundred pages of results.
