How to Contact a Domain Owner
You can contact a domain owner to make an offer on the domain name or inquire on another aspect of the Internet business. If you're planning a website, you might find that the name you picked is already registered to someone else. In some cases, the domain name is held by someone who has not developed a website. Some domain owners may be willing to sell the name to an interested party. Other contacts to domain owners in regard to their Internet business are subject to reply, based on importance to that particular owner.

1
Find a contact source. Use the website of a domain owner to find an email or physical address. There may even be a contact phone number listed on the site. Do a WHOIS search (see Resources) for owner identification and contact information if the website doesn't provide contacts. The search may lead to the hosting company if the site is undeveloped. Use that information to request forward of your inquiry to the owner.

2
Make your presentation with a professional tone. A salutation such as "Hey, Dude," is inappropriate, even for the owner of a skateboard website.

3
Inquire without making an offer. Find out if the owner is interested in selling the domain name first. A reply may include an asking price that's lower than you had planned to offer.
-
4
Use the contact phone number for inquiries if one is listed on the website or WHOIS registration. Some business owners disregard email and snail-mail contacts but answer their phone calls.

Tips & Warnings
Be prepared to have all of your contact attempts ignored. Some domain owners simply do not reply to anything other than orders for sales. Getting no answer is likely the same as getting a "no" answer.
