How to Clean a Hockey Helmet

Hockey is an active sport in which the players are constantly on the move. Hockey equipment and the players' uniforms become very sweaty during a typical game. In addition to producing a pungent odor, a sweat-filled hockey helmet can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Cleaning a hockey helmet after every game can keep the equipment smelling fresh and sanitary.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a sink basin or portable bowl with warm water and a few drops of a mild baby shampoo. The cleaning solution should produce some suds (but not too many) to rinse off the helmet easily.

    • 2

Dip a clean sponge into the cleaning solution and squeeze out excess water so it is not dripping.

    • 3

Scrub the inside of the hockey helmet with the sponge, being sure to remove dirt and grime from any crevices. Clean the plastic straps with the sponge as well.

    • 4

Blot the inside of the hockey helmet dry with an absorbent bath towel. Remove as much of the water as possible to avoid mildew from forming.

    • 5

Remove scuffs from the outside of the helmet with a microporous cleaning block, sometimes referred to as an "eraser."

    • 6

Set the hockey helmet on a dry towel and place it in a well-ventilated area to air dry completely.
