How to Split MP4 Files
If you have some MP4 video files that are too long or that you want to break up, you can actually split MP4 files. Download and install the Boilsoft Video Splitter from the Boilsoft website (see Resources). You can download it and give it a try for free but you will have to pay if you decide to keep it. The 2009 Boilsoft Video Splitter is $34.95.

Launch the Boilsoft Video Splitter on your computer. Click the "Open" button to select the MP4 files that you want to split. You can only split one file at a time.

Split the file into equal size clips. If you just want to split up the file into equal size clips, you can click the radio button by that option. Enter in the number of equal sized clips you want it split into.

Select the split. If you want to split the file yourself, select precisely where the split is then select the radio button by that option. Drag the slider bar under the video to get the precise time code for the start and end of the split. Then enter it under "Split by Selection."

Click "Split" when you are ready to split the MP4 file. While the file is being split the "Stop" button will be clickable in case you need to stop or pause the process. A pop-up will let you know when it is finished. Click "OK" and you can use the new files.
