How to Make Easter Bonnets for Boys
A knit Easter bonnet is ideal for your baby boy. Worked in a very soft yarn, this will keep his little head warm and complement traditional, sweet dress clothes for such a tiny baby. While many baby bonnet patterns are a bit too lacy or feminine, this one is perfect for your new baby boy. Choose a warmer yarn for a cool climate and a lighter one if you expect a warm Easter.
Things You'll Need

1
Knit a gauge swatch. Your gauge should be 28 stitches and 36 rows to 4 inches. Choose a needle and yarn that produces this gauge, or adjust stitches accordingly. If you prefer a slightly larger bonnet or a slightly smaller one, add or remove eight stitches. You can also opt for a larger needle and yarn size to make a larger boy's bonnet with this bonnet pattern.

Work 8 rows in moss stitch. On row one, knit 2, purl 2 across the row. Work in a purl 2, knit 2 pattern for rows two and three. Work row four in a knit 2, purl 2 pattern across the row to start your boy's Easter bonnet.

Continue in stockinette stitch until the baby bonnet measures 5 inches from the cast on edge, ending with a purl row. On the following row, knit 2 together 4 times, knit to 8 stitches from end and knit 2 together 4 times. Purl one row. Repeat these two rows until 8 stitches remain. Bind these stitches off.

Pick up 72 stitches along the bottom of the baby bonnet. Cast on an additional 16 stitches for a total of 88. Work the first row in a knit 2, purl 2 pattern. Work rows 2 and 3 of the chin strap in a purl 2, knit 2 pattern. Work row 4 in a knit two, purl 2 pattern.

Tips & Warnings
Choose a cotton blend yarn for a later Easter or warmer climate. A soft superwash wool is ideal for cooler weather. Work this boy's bonnet in white or ivory as a Christening bonnet.
