Here's a fun way to reuse dad's old necktie. If you are looking for a fun and useful craft gift to make with the kids for father's day or another holiday, check out this idea! It works best with a slim phone or player.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • necktie
  • coordinating thread
  • needle
  • heat and bond velcro (optional)
  • phone or mp3 to measure
  • measuring tape or ruler
  1. Step 1

Measure the mp3 player or cell phone that you are making the project for.

Flip tie over. Measure from the straight part of the tie under the pointed end to double the length of the cell phone. Go down about 1/4 inch and cut here. If the cell phone is 6 inches long, cut 12 1/4 inches down the tie. This leaves a little room to make a hem.

  3. Step 3

Now, make a hem on the newly cut end. You can tuck the ragged ends into the tie itself, iron it down and run a small stitching into the end to hold it into place.

Next, fold the tie over putting right sides together. Make the newly hemmed end line up with the straight end of the other end.

Sew a small stitch line along the two sides of the folded tie piece. Make sure that the right sides are together.

  6. Step 6

Now, turn the newly created pocket right side out. Turn the flap down and iron the entire tie on a low setting to set in the creases.

  7. Step 7

If desired, a piece of heat and bond Velcro can be added to the flap. Be sure that it lines up when folded down before bonding it to the tie, since it is nearly impossible to move once it is set in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • the pocket can be sewn by hand or on a machine.
  • Be careful while keeping the edges together while sewing since tie material tends to be slippery!
  • Make sure that the phone will fit width-wise into the case before sewing. Some phones may be too wide to fit and some ties may be too thin to work.
  • Always ask mom or dad with help with the iron!
