How to Remove Live Search Off the Toolbar

Most people use Google as their primary search engine when surfing the Internet. Recent versions of Internet Explorer, however, come with a Live Search on the toolbar. Live Search acts as a search engine, though it does not use Google. One of the default settings for Internet Explorer is for Live Search to appear on the toolbar. However, if you wish to, you can remove Live Search from the toolbar.

Instructions

    • 1

      Close Internet Explorer.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button found on the lower left of the desktop and select "Run," or press your "Windows" and "R" keys at the same time.

    • 3

Type "regedit" in the Run window, then click "OK."

    • 4

Click the "+" next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and select "Software." Click the "+" next to "Software" and select "Policies."

    • 5

Select "Microsoft" under "Policies" and make your way to "Internet Explorer\Infodelivery\Restrictions."

    • 6

Double-click on the blank part on the right side of the screen. Highlight "New" and select "DWORD" when it appears. Name the DWORD "NoSearchBox." Double-click "NoSearchBox" and set its value to "1."

Tips & Warnings

  • If Internet Explorer is open when performing these steps, the Live Search is not removed until you close the window and open a new one.

  • To restore Live Search, set the value to "0" under "NoSearchBox."
