Bike trainers are stands that hold the back wheel of a bicycle off the ground to convert it to a stationary bike. They provide a great way to exercise indoors, and save you the hassle of buying a bulky stationary bike.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Lay an exercise mat down in a flat, solid area. Place the bike trainer toward the back of the mat.

  2. Step 2

Set the back wheel of your bicycle into the bike trainer. Tighten the clamp securely around the back axle.

  3. Step 3

Set the resistance. Spin the wheel a few times with your hand to test the resistance. Make sure the tire does not rub, and has enough clearance from the floor.

  4. Step 4

Step into the pedals of the bicycle and turn slowly to test the bike's stability and resistance. Make any final adjustments prior to working out on the bike trainer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some bike trainers come with tracking programs that calculate mileage and speed.
  • Most bike trainers only stabilize the rear wheel; be aware that the front may be unstable and it is possible for the bicycle to fall over. Consult your physician prior to starting any exercise program.
