How to Change the Clock Speed on a CPU

To improve the performance of your computer, you might want to consider increasing the clock speed on your CPU. This is known as "overclocking" your CPU. It is a simple enough process, but it does come at a cost and will likely shorten the lifespan of your CPU due to overheating. However, overclocking the CPU clock speed will noticeably improve the performance of your system.

Instructions

1. Reboot your computer. As it boots up, you will see some words written at the bottom of your screen. It will tell you here the button or buttons you need to press to get the "System Info" or "BIOs." It is usually "F10," "F1" or the "Delete" button, but it will differ from computer to computer.

2. Look for CPU Clock Ratio and CPU frequency. These are the two things that you will need to change. Use the arrow keys to scroll up and down. Once you are on one of these, press on the "Enter" button. Then, use the arrow keys to adjust numbers. Only change them by one or two increments at first so as not to stress your system too much.

3. Save your changes by pressing "F10" and "Save Settings." Reboot your computer. Once you've rebooted your system, you should notice the changes immediately. If you don't, then repeat the above steps and increase the changes.

4. Check your system. Overclocking the system can cause the computer to overheat, become unstable and crash. So each time that you make a change, open up a few applications and windows on your browser. See if your computer is still stable. If it is, then you can make additional changes if you're still not satisfied.

• Every computer will be slightly different, and some manufacturers do not allow overclocking of the CPU from the BIOs, so this will not work on all makes and models.
