How to Convert S-Video Into VGA

This standard VGA plug needs an adapter to connect to S-video.

S-video is a type of connector for transmitting video signals form one device to another, such as from a camcorder to a TV or from a computer to a monitor. A VGA (video graphics array) port serves the same purpose, but with a different plug design. The round S-video plug contains seven metal pins for transmitting a signal. VGA contains 15 pins arranged in three rows of five for sending video data from one component to another. Converting S-video to VGA requires an adapter cable to connect an S-video cable with a VGA cable.

• S-video to VGA adapter

Instructions

1. Disconnect any devices from the S-video and VGA cables that will be joined with an adapter.

2. Line up the VGA plug with the matching socket on one side of the adapter and connect it by pushing straight in. Tighten the thumbscrews on the cable plug to hold it to the adapter.

3. Connect the plug on one end of the S-video cable to the matching socket on the adapter.

4. Reconnect the other end of each cable to its respective device, such as a computer on one end and a monitor on the other.
