How to Convert DSS Files to WAV
Digital Speech Standard (DSS) files are audio files that are made by digital voice recorders. If you have some DSS files that you want to edit or do other things with you need to convert your DSS files to WAV files with an audio converter. The Switch Audio File Converter is a popular freeware choice on CNET for converter DSS to WAV. You can use it to quickly convert your DSS files to WAV.

Download and install Switch Audio File Converter from the NCH Software website (see Resources). It is freeware so you will not have to pay to download or use it.

Launch Switch Audio File Converter on your computer. Select your DSS files by clicking the "Add Files" button.

Select your output location by locating the "Output Folder" section at the bottom of the screen. Click the "Browse" button to pick the destination folder for the new WAV files.

Click the drop down menu by "Output Format." Select WAV from the output file types.

Click one of the "Convert" buttons. There is on one the toolbar and one on the lower right corner. When the conversion completes a pop up appears and you need to click "OK." Once you do that you will be able to use the new WAV files.

This doesn't work; the free version of Switch Audio File Converter doesn't support DSS. Additionally, DSS File Converter, mentioned by kvoelker above, is not freeware, though it does have a 30-day trial period.
