A major advantage of flat panel televisions is that they are able to be mounted on the wall. Even though the televisions are made to look like framed pictures, you will want to hang the television much different than a normal picture frame. VESA mounts are the universal mounting answer to all flat panel televisions. A VESA mount can be used to mount a television that weighs upwards of 300 pounds or as little as 15 pounds. VESA mounts can be low profile, tilting or full motion, which offers a wide variety of options for places to mount the television.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Determine the position on the wall where you want to hang the TV.

  2. Step 2

Locate two studs in the wall that will support the VESA mount. Make two marks on each stud where you will drill holes for the support lag bolts. Use the level to make sure the holes for the mount are even. Drill two holes into each stud that correspond to matching spots on the mount.

  3. Step 3

Drill holes into each stud that correspond to matching spots on the mount. Mount the bracket with the lag bolts into the wall. Securely tighten the bolts but be careful to not over tighten them.

  4. Step 4

Attach the television to the brackets that will hang onto the mount. If needed, use spacers to allow easier access to the cable inputs.

  5. Step 5

Use the brackets attached to the television to hang it on the mount installed on the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure holes are drilled into studs and not just drywall or the mount may fail and fall off the wall.
