Higher-bitrate songs, while sounding great, are often very large files. This means that they take up a lot more space on your computer or your personal music player. You can maximize your device's available space by converting higher-bitrate songs to 128 kbps using iTunes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Setting iTunes to Convert at 128kbps

  1. Step 1

Open your iTunes program. If you do not already have it installed, it is available as a free download from apple.com/itunes.

  2. Step 2

If your operating system is Windows, click "Edit" on the program menu and then select "Preferences." If you are on a Mac, click "iTunes" and then select "Preferences." This will open the iTunes Preferences window.

  3. Step 3

Select the "General" tab at the top of the window.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "Import Settings" button in the middle of the window.

  5. Step 5

  6. Step 6

Select "Good Quality (128kbps)" from the "Setting:" menu.

  7. Step 7

Click OK to close the "Import Settings" window and click "OK" again.

  8. Converting Your Songs to 128kbps

  9. Step 1

Create and name a playlist of the songs you want to convert by clicking on the '+' button in the bottom left corner of the iTunes program window.

  10. Step 2

Drag and drop your song files onto the playlist you just created.

  11. Step 3

Select all of the songs in the playlist window by hitting 'Ctrl" and "A."
