Creating Star Trek costumes is actually rather easy. No special skills are required (you don't even have to know how to sew), and the best part is that these costumes are easily recognizable. Star Trek costumes can be good for individual or group costumes. And you don't have to go to a convention to wear one; they're great for costume parties and for Halloween too.
Things You'll Need
- Long-sleeve T-shirt with collar (red, light blue or mustard yellow)
- High-waisted black pants
- Black fabric
- Aluminum foil
- Hot glue gun
You must decide what type of Star Trek crew member you'd like to be in order to decide what color shirt to use. Red indicates navigation, blue signifies science or medicine, and yellow stands for the engineering crew.
Once you've chosen a shirt, glue some black fabric to the collar of the shirt. If you want to go for the Next Generation look, glue black fabric down the shoulder area of the shirt, to about midchest.
Fold the pants down on the sides and in the back so that the come to a point in the front. See resources below for an image to guide you.
For the silver badge, fold a piece of aluminum foil into a triangle shape, with a slight inward curve at the bottom. Also from the aluminum foil, make a flat ring to go behind the triangle. Glue this to the left shoulder of the costume. See references below for an image of this badge.
