How to Find a Wireless Router's IP Address

Wireless networking allows computers and mobile devices to access the Internet within a localized area through a wireless gateway device, or router. You can configure routers with different user names, passwords, and other settings by logging into the router using its IP, or Internet Protocol, address. Knowing your wireless router's IP address is useful if you plan to alter your router's settings.

Things You'll Need

• Login name and password for the router

Instructions

1. Connect to the Internet using your wireless router.

2. Click "Start" then "Run" on your computer.

3. Type "Command" in the Run field and click "OK." This will open a DOS command-prompt window.

4. Type "ipconfig" into the DOS command prompt and press the "Enter" key. A list of information about your Internet connection will populate.

5. Scroll up through the information and locate "Default Gateway." The number listed here is your wireless router's IP address.

Tips & Warnings

• Most wireless routers have a standard default IP address, login name and password set. Two very common IPs are 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1

• The manual that comes with your router should contain info about IP address and default settings.
