Setting up a home theater is easier than it looks!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Speaker wire
  • The system
  • RCA cables (1 per sound device)
  • Video cables (1 per video device)
  • Speaker wire
  • Wire stripper
  1. Step 1

Determine what will all be connected to the audio/video receiver. Start by connecting the audio cables. Connect RCA (red/white) cables from all device audio outs to the corresponding audio in on the back of the receiver matching red to red and white to white.

  2. Step 2

Next connect the video cables (can be purchased as a yellow RCA cable or an s-video cable, check your devices before purchasing cables). Connect any devices with a video out to the corresponding video in on the receiver. Finally connect the video out on the reciever to the video in on the tv. (Some devices, typically cassette decks, have an audio out and in. In this case connect the audio out to the opposite audio in and vice-versus).

  3. Step 3

Last step is to connect the speakers. It is the same method as the previous connections. Use the speaker wire to connect the red output on the reciever to the red input on the speaker and the same with the black. Subwoofers are sometimes connected with a wire similar to the RCA cables used earlier. Match up the front left and right connections to the speaker placed in that position when facing the receivers front. Turn on and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't over think the connections. It really is just matching pairs.
  • Always connect red to red black to black, especially on the speakers.
  • Try not to splice and connect any wires if possible
  • Make sure all connection are done with the units powered off or even unplugged.
  • Units may contain electric charge if plugged in even when powered off.
