Things You'll Need:
- Internet connection (the faster the connection, the better your video quality!)
- PC
- A Roku Digital Video Player
- LCD or Plasma TV with VGA connector
-
Step 1
LCD and Plasma TVs are affordableFirst, you need to get the right kind of TV. If you're still stuck with an old tube television (the kind that isn't thin and flat), start saving your pennies to buy one - LCD and Plasma TVs are more affordable now than ever. Save the $50 a month you spend on cable and put it toward buying a great new HD TV! Make sure the TV you buy has VGA input (so it can act as your computer monitor).
-
Step 2
If you're not a Netflix subscriber, start up now: memberships start at as little as $8.99 a month, and if you can share the membership with someone else in your house the price goes down even more. But, best of all, with your Netflix membership comes unlimited access to their huge library of over 12,000 titles (and growing). There are plenty of television series' to choose, from Monty Python, to Star Trek, to South Park.
-
Step 3
Roku streams internet video to your TVNext, pick up a Roku Digital Video Player. These have a one-time cost of $99.00 (you can pick one up at Amazon), and have no monthly fees attach. What they allow you to do, though, is stream Netflix "Instant Watch" and Amazon "Video On Demand" titles right to your TV, in full HD.
-
Step 4
For websites like Hulu, grab a VGA cord and connect your computer to your LCD or Plasma TV to get the video to display. Then, plug a Headphone to RCA cord from your computer into the TV (or audio receiver, if you use one) to get the internet TV audio on your speakers.
