Punch bowl cakes are made by layering fruit, cake, pudding and other desserts in a large bowl. You can use homemade ingredients to assemble the cake or you can purchase them pre-made to save time. Either way, a punch bowl cake is highly customizable and easy to make.
Prepare the Ingredients
The most important part of making a punch bowl cake is selecting your ingredients. You can use any type of cake, chopped fruit, pudding, whipped cream and syrup you would like. Chop or tear the cake into small pieces before you begin. A chocolate strawberry punch bowl cake could use chopped strawberries, chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, strawberry syrup and vanilla whipped cream, for example. Swapping the chopped strawberries for orange sections will make a tangier cake.
Assemble the Cake
Layer your ingredients in a large clear bowl starting with about half of the cake pieces. After the cake pieces, add a layer of chopped fruit, then a layer of pudding. Repeat the layers and then top the cake with whipped cream. Garnish it with a few pieces of fruit for presentation and then spoon it onto plates when you're ready to serve it.
