How to Use Twitter Groups
Twitter groups help you channel your tweets to just the people or group you want to see them. You can even "protect" your group for additional privacy. In a protected Twitter group, only approved or invited guests can follow the group's tweets. Several websites are available to help you create and/or join Twitter groups. Others are likely to appear in the future. This article will suggest several that are available as of this writing.

Most of the websites I will mention require that you provide your Twitter username and password for use. If you are worried about the security of sharing that information, check the website for a privacy policy before you begin to use it.

2
Twitter4Groups lets you create either a public or private Twitter group. Private groups would be ideal for work groups and other conversations that don't need to become part of the public timeline.

Twitter Groups is a compilation of existing Twitter groups that you might want to join or follow. Use these groups to find people who share your interests. Joining existing Twitter groups can also help you extend your social network and expand your contacts.

4
Tweet Works also lets you set up new groups or join existing groups. Groups can be public or private.

5
TwitTangle is a service for finding and joining groups, but it goes beyond that to provide more value. You can use it to tag your friends and then filter your timeline based on the tags you've created.

6
Filttr lets you create groups from your existing list of followers in order to filter them yourself. They call this source filtering. Filttr also provides services for groups, custom keyphrases and priorities.
