How to See Ended eBay Auctions

Researching how eBay auctions have ended for similar items provides valuable information. As a buyer, you will be able to bid more shrewdly if you know the competition. As a seller, you will be able to structure your auction and set prices to maximize your profit potential.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet connection
  1. Step 1

    Go to the eBay site and sign in. You must be signed in to see eBay auctions that have ended. If you are new to the site, register for a free account.

  2. Step 2
     

    Type in the item you are researching in the search bar at the top of the page. Be as specific as possible. On a typical day, searching for "iPod nano" produced 38,589 listings, while "iPod nano chromatic black mp3 player" resulted in 57 matches.

  3. Step 3

    Choose the category of your item and click the "Search" button. The listings that come up will be active.

  4. Step 4
     

    To find past auctions for similar items, go to the Preferences sidebar on the left side of the page. Under the "Show only" category, click on "Completed listings."

  5. Step 5

    Click on the "Show Items" button in the sidebar. All listings will now be for completed auctions. Click on a product name to view details about that particular listing.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you'd like even more information about a specific past auction, click on the "Show" button next to"Listing and payment details" in the product box. You will see the starting time, starting bid and payment methods of the auction.
