Instructions

    • 1

Place sandy soil in the bottom of the aquarium or container that will house the cricket farm. Build the layer at least a half-inch deep so that the crickets will be able to burrow.

    • 2

Moisten the part of the soil which will be used for laying eggs. The rest of the cricket farm should remain dry

    • 3

Build some housing units in the dry part of the sand for the young crickets to hide. Use cardboard cylinders, such as toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. You can also use cardboard egg cartons.

    • 4

Since a water dish is too deep for the crickets, use a flat saucer for the slices of orange that will provide their liquid needs. Their dry food should be kept separate.

    • 5

Now that you have built the inside of the cricket farm, it is time to install the roof. The little critters are escape artists, so use a wire mesh lid with very small holes. Do not use plastic as crickets are able to eat through it. Also, to keep the crickets on the farm, put a thin layer of petroleum jelly around the upper walls.
