When you're a weightlifter, you want to choose gloves so that the sweat on your hands doesn't cause you to drop a weight, which could result in some pretty nasty injuries. Good weightlifting gloves not only keep your hands dry, they also provide support so that you can lift more. Weightlifting gloves are not a one-size-fits-all product, so it benefits you to do the work to make sure you find gloves that fit your needs perfectly. Here's how.

From Quick Guide: All About Neoprene
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider the size of weightlifting gloves that you'll need. Typical weightlifting gloves come in small, medium, large and extra large. The size of your hands will depend on what type of fit you get, but, as a rule of thumb, choose a small if you wear size 7-9 shoes, medium for 9-10 shoes, large for 10-12 shoes and extra large for any shoe size larger than a 12.

  2. Step 2

Go to a weightlifting or fitness store, and try on gloves. Trying on gloves ensures that you'll get a perfect fit on gloves you really love. Make sure to try on different brands, and keep in mind that mediums in one brand my fit differently than mediums in another brand.

  3. Step 3

Decide what type of material you'd like on your gloves. If you're using them for moisture prevention, go with neoprene gloves that will wick moisture away when you sweat. If you're looking for more support, you may want to choose leather gloves with less stretch.

  4. Step 4

Look for an enclosure that suits you best. Some weightlifting gloves come with a Velcro enclosure that opens and closes easily, while some gloves are slip-ons. Choose one that is best for your activities and lifestyle; if you need something you can get in and out of quickly, choose the Velcro.

  5. Step 5

See whether a retailer has a return policy so you can try a quick lift while wearing the gloves. Test the comfort level and the support, and send the gloves back if you don't feel like you're getting everything you want out of them.
