Instructions

  1. How To Hook Up A Built-in Electric Oven

    • 1

Disconnect the power to the oven's electrical junction box at the fuse box or circuit breaker. Most electric ovens are serviced by two fuses or a double circuit breaker.

    • 2
      Junction Box Without Cover

Locate the junction box, usually behind or to the side of the oven. Remove the cover screws with a screwdriver and take off the cover.

    • 3
      Flexible Steel Armored Cable

Route the oven's flexible armored power cable to the junction box. Use a wrench to secure the conduit connector at the end of the power cable to the junction box.

    • 4
      Wire Nuts

Locate the red wire from the power cable and the red wire from the junction box. Strip the last 1/2- to 3/4-inch of insulation from each wire and join the bare ends by twisting them together with a wire nut. Connect the two black wires in the same manner. Use a wire nut to connect the ground wire (green or bare copper) and the neutral wire (white) from the oven's power cable with the ground wire (white or bare copper) in the junction box.

    • 5

Tuck the wires into the junction box and replace the box's cover. Restore the power from the circuit breaker or fuse box.

How To Hook Up A Built-in Gas Oven

    • 6

Turn off the gas supply to the line servicing the oven.

    • 7
      Brass Male-Male Union

Check the threading and diameters of the gas line and oven inlet fittings. Purchase an adapter or union to join the two, if needed. Most often, a 3/8-inch male-male union is needed.

    • 8
      Teflon Tape

Wrap Teflon tape around the male threads of the fitting or union and screw it into the oven inlet. Tighten the connection with a wrench. Join the fitting or union to the gas line in the same manner.

    • 9

Restore the gas supply. Check the connections for leaks by dripping a dilute soap and water solution onto them. If bubbles appear around the fittings, shut off the gas and tighten the connections, then turn the gas back on and check again.

    • 10

Plug the oven's accessory power cord into a grounded outlet. Light the pilot flame and adjust the gas regulator valve according to the oven manufacturer's instructions.
