How to Airbrush in Photoshop Elements

We all would like our photographs to look as good as those we see on magazine covers, where everyone seems to be perfect. But, of course, those photos have usually been altered in Adobe Photoshop using a process known as air brushing (although you don't actually use the airbrush).
But if you don't have the big bucks to buy costly Photoshop air-brushing software and want to achieve similar results, try the more reasonably priced Photoshop Elements. Here is a step-by-step guide to teach you how.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop Elements, and then open the portrait you want to edit.

    • 2

Go to the toolbar on the right and select the "Clone" tool. Go to the brush options at the top and choose the brush tip you want. You can also use the slider to change the size of the brush and adjust the pressure of the brush, which decides how much paint is laid down in a single stroke.

Hold down the ALT key while clicking near (but not on) a blemish or other imperfection you would like to remove from the face. Now right-click on your mouse and hold, then paint across the blemish using one very short stroke. The "Clone" will take the texture from the area you selected and apply it to the blemish.

Look closely at the area you just worked on. You will probably see a line showing where the repair starts. Select the "Patch" tool and use it to select part of the line you see, then drag this to a nearby piece of skin. This will blend the line into the skin.

Continue this process with all other parts of the face you want to improve, then save your image.
