How to Make a Bubble Wand
The weather is wonderful, the kids are playing in the yard and you and some friends are enjoying life. Keep the children entertained with a good old-fashioned bubble wand you can make yourself with a few simple tools and some wire found in your home. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 12 inches, 16-gauge wire (copper, brass, steel, old hanger)
- Wire cutter
- Needle file, wire rounder or cup burr
- Dowel
- Round nose pliers
- Hammer or mallet

File both ends of the wire smooth with a needle file, wire rounder or cup burr.

Create a large loop by wrapping the wire around the dowel. Wrap the wire three times at the base of the large loop to secure. This large loop will be used to make the bubbles.

Create the handle of the wand. Measure 3 1/2 inches from the base of the large wire-wrapped loop. Use your finger, a smaller dowel or your round nose pliers to create two decorative loops.

Hit the completed wire bubble wand with a raw hide or plastic mallet to harden the wire and retain the form of the bubble wand. If you prefer texture to the metal, substitute a ball pein hammer for the mallet.

Tips & Warnings
Wire hangers can be used for this project. Its a great way to upcycle, turning trash into a toy.
To make a big bubble, enlarge the size of the loop and the stem of the wand.
To make gazillion bubbles, add additional loops.
Always wear eye protection when cutting wire.
File the ends of the wire smooth so there are no cut fingers.
Be sure the wire you use contains no lead or other substances that could harm children.
Small children should be supervised when blowing bubbles.
