How to Find an Apartment Without a Realtor
In large metropolitan areas people tend to search for apartments through real estate agents but this is costly. It is really just as easy to complete the search on your own.

1
Drive around the area that you want to get an apartment in. Look for buildings that you like. Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time. If you see a building that you really like look for the Super's office. Knock on the Super's door and ask to see an apartment. If the Super is busy, they will either give you a phone number to set up an appointment or let you know when they have time.
The Super can give you the details on the apartment and either provide you with a rental agreement or get you in touch with the managing agent.

For buildings that you do not find a Super, write down the name of the building and look for a sign with the phone number to the managing office.

3
Look at the free apartment guides for the area that you want to move to. The apartment buildings in the guides tend to be a bit more expensive, but usually offer more amenities.
-
4
Look in the classified ads of the newspaper. The weekend papers are the best for finding apartments for rent.
-
5
Look up Apartments in the telephone book. You can often find that great apartment building that you missed while driving around.
