How to Block a Caller's Phone Number

Prevent unwanted calls by blocking select numbers from your phone.

The specifics of blocking a caller's number from your telephone vary among different phone models, including cell and land line, but the principle is the same.

Instructions

1. Toggle your cell phone from the main menu screen to "Settings," then "Security," and enter the security code for your phone. If you've lost your security code, contact your cell service provider or try entering the last four digits of your phone number, which is often the default code.

2. Scroll to "Selective call block."

3. Enter the number, including the area code, of the caller you wish to block.

4. Press "Enter" or "OK" to block the number.

5. Refer to the owner's manual that came with your phone for specific codes and the key sequence unique to your particular model.

6. Block a caller's number from your land line by contacting your telephone company, which may charge a monthly fee for blocking a certain amount of select numbers from contacting you.

7. Register your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry (https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx ), which will dramatically reduce and may even eliminate telemarketing calls you receive. Registration is free, will not expire, and can be done for every phone you have--including family members' cell phones.
