How to Keep Mice Out of an RV
Mice can easily decide to take up residence in RVs, especially ones that have been parked for the winter. Many RV owners have opened their RVs up to prepare for an early spring camping trip only to find their RVs have become the winter destination of countless mice---and their babies. There are ways to keep mice out of an RV and owners are advised to take these precautions.
Things You'll Need
- Cleanser that contains bleach
- Fabric softener dryer sheets
- Silicone or expanding foam
- Tape

1
Park your RV away from grass, fields and wooded areas. These areas are known habitats for mice. Concrete, solid surfaces are the best places to park RVs.
-
2
Place fabric softener dryer sheets in closets, in cabinets and in drawers. They work the same way as mothballs and can help repel mice---without the noxious fumes.

3
Check around and beneath the RV for holes. This is easiest to do around dusky-dark. Turn all the lights on inside the RV and check to see if there are any cracks that mice could slip in through.
-
4
Fill in the holes that you find with expanding foam or silicone. Steel wool is an alternative until these items can be purchased.
-
5
Check around and beneath the RV again to ensure that all holes that light came through have been filled.
-
6
Pour a small amount of kitchen cleaner that contains bleach around your RV tires. This will deter mice from climbing up your tires.
-
7
Place steel wool in appliance vents and cover with tape when parking your RV for the winter, or after a trip.
-
8
Remove garbage from your RV. Do not allow garbage to accumulate inside an RV. Dispose of it as quickly as possible.
-
9
Keep any food that is stored in the RV in tightly sealed containers or bags. Do not store any food in an RV unless you are actively using the RV.

Tips & Warnings
One of the best deterrents against mice are cats. Having a cat or two on the property where your RV is stored can cut down the chances that they'll infest your RV. Taking a cat along with you on your RV trips can cut down the likelihood that you pick-up mice along the way.
Don't use cleaner with bleach around your RV tires if you have a pet nearby. They could lap up the cleanser and become ill.

During camping season, I keep mice out of my dry food goods (potatoes, sugar, flour, etc) by storing these items in rodent-proof food bags. The bags I bought online are called GrubPack. It beats unloading my RV after each weekend use.
