You can turn any room into a winter wonderland with easy to make hanging snowflake decorations. These low-cost decorations only require a few minutes of time and some heavy paper. You can use these snowflakes to decorate for holiday parties, classrooms or just to bring a bit of winter inside. By hanging each snowflake from a different length of thread, you can foster the illusion of a snowfall happening inside the warmth of your home.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Hole punch
  • String
  1. Step 1
    Template

    Template

Print the snowflake template onto card stock (see illustration below). Yarn Owl (see Resources) has several alternative templates from which to choose. Cut the template out, but don't cut the red line quite yet.

  2. Step 2

Trace the snowflake template onto two separate pieces of white card stock with your pencil.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the two traced snowflakes. Cut a line to the middle of each snowflake using the red line as shown on the template.

  4. Step 4
    Attach the two snowflakes.

    Attach the two snowflakes.

Hold one snowflake so that the opening for the cut in the center is facing up. Place the opening of the other snowflake's center cut into the cut of the snowflake with the cut facing up. Slide the two snowflakes together until the bottoms of each cut rest against each other. Glue along the seam where the snowflakes join to secure the snowflakes together and create a three-dimensional flake.

  5. Step 5

Punch a hole in the top of the snowflake and tie a piece of string through it. Use the string to hang it from the ceiling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Decorate your snowflakes with glitter or use decorative papers from a scrapbook store.
  • Do not hang snowflakes where they will get tangled in ceiling fans.
