How to Make a Grid in InDesign
Alignment is an important aspect of desktop publishing and graphic design, but sometimes, it can be difficult to tell when items are perfectly aligned. Adobe InDesign has taken this into consideration. Adobe has provided guides and grids that allow you to align items quickly. There are several ways to make a grid in InDesign. This tutorial will cover two of these ways.

Set the Baseline Grid. The Baseline Grid helps align columns of text. Open the "color" drop-down box to select the line color. In the "Start:" box, enter the starting position for the grid. Enter the spacing for each line in the "Increment Every" box. When "Show Baseline Grid" is turned on, the baseline grid will look like ruled notebook paper.

Set the Document Grid. The Document Grid helps align objects. Open the "color" drop-down box to select the line color. Enter a value in the Horizontal and Vertical "Gridline Every:" box to determine the distance between each line. Enter a value in the "Subdivisions:" box to determine how many lines appear inside each grid square. When "Show Document Grid" is turned on, the document grid will look like graph paper.

Repeat the lines to finish the grid. Select the two guides that you just created. Select "Edit > Step and Repeat." In the "Repeat Count:" box, enter how many lines you want the grid to contain. In the "Horizontal Offset:" and the "Vertical Offset:" boxes, enter how much space should be between the lines.
