Things You'll Need:
- Salicylic acid cleanser
- Toner
- Facial scrub
- Mask
- Water-based makeup
- Pore treatment strips
-
Step 1
Cleanse your skin twice daily. You must remove excess oil, makeup, sweat and dirt from your skin. If you don't, they will sink into your pores and stay there. Choose a cleanser that contains salicylic acid, as it encourages skin cell turnover, helping to clear clogged pores.
-
Step 2
Place toner on a cotton ball and apply it to your skin. Since toner helps balance your skin's oil levels, it'll prevent excess oil from clogging your pores. For a natural approach, you can use tea tree oil as a toner.
-
Step 3
Exfoliate your skin, using a facial scrub. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. If you don't remove these cells, they can clog your pores. For best results, exfoliate 2 to 3 times weekly.
-
Step 4
Use a deep-cleaning mask on your skin weekly. Masks provide your pores with an intense cleaning process, pulling impurities and grime from deep within them to the surface. If your pores are particularly clogged, you can use a mask 2 to 3 times weekly.
-
Step 5
Switch to water-based makeup. Oil-based products sink into your pores and clog them. Instead, choose water-based foundations, concealers, creams, lotions and serums. You can also use mineral-based makeup, which is less likely to clog your pores.
-
Step 6
Use pore treatment strips. These strips are applied to the skin, on areas where your pores are clogged. After leaving the strips on the area for roughly 5 to 10 minutes, remove them. As you peel the strips off your skin, they should pull oil and debris from your pores. Pore treatment strips are available in most cosmetic and drug stores.
