Step 1
Anna Scripps Whitcomb ConservatoryVisit Belle Isle, which is a 1,000 acre island on the Detroit River. The island is composed of picnic areas, the Nancy Brown Peach Tower and more. The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory has been located on the island since 1904 and offer free admission.

Step 2
Ttake a walk along the riverfront and visit Hart Plaza. In the middle of Hart Plaza there is a computerized fountain which jets over a million gallons of water through the air every hour. A great place for the kids to play, and to cool off during the summer.
A number of festivals are staged in ZHart Plaza each year as well. -
Step 3
If you enjoy art, spend a couple of days enjoying some of the museums in Detroit. The following offer free admission: Dossin Great Lakes Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Detroit Institute of Art and the Museum of New art aka MONA.
For racing fans, The Motorsports Hall of Fame in Detroit offers a reasonable admission price of only $5.00.
And for history buffs, the Detroit Historical Museum has a mere $6.00 admission fee. -
Step 4
The Penobscot BuildingDetroit is one of the few cities in which the architecture is still mostly in it's original form. Some of the great buildings to see include: The Book Cadillac Hotel, The Fisher Building, The Fox Theatre, The Guardian Building and the Penobscot Building.

And finally pack a picnic lunch and enjoy one of Detroit's many parks like the Tri-Centennial State Park, Chene Park or Mt. Elliot Park, just to nqme a few.
