Many people create unique, handmade jewelry, but don't know how to sell it. There are many different outlets for you to sell handmade jewelry.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • business cards
  • promotional fliers
  • camera
  • fold up tables and chair
  • display racks (purchased or handmade)
  1. Step 1

Get a business or sales tax license - which ever one your city/state require. If you want to make money you need to be able to write off your expenses at tax time, and unless you are considered a business you can't do that.

  2. Step 2

Make promotional fliers and business cards to hand out to potential customers. Have a stack of these in your car and your purse to give to anyone who shows interest in your work. You can, also, use the business cards as display cards for your earrings. You can put a hole in the center with a hole puncher, and hang the earrings or just put them on the table to sell. Another plus, when someone buys your earrings, they have your name, address and email address. This way they can contact you to sell more.

  3. Step 3

Go to craft shows. Pick at least one or two craft shows to start with. Mass produce a bunch of fast simple designs that you can make cheaply and sell cheaply. With our economy the way it is right now, you have to have some low cost items to catch the customer's attention. Place the more expensive jewelry near the cheap stuff, so that people notice it while looking at the less expensive stuff. Usually, you get about ten small sales for every one large sale. Remember selling your stuff is the most important thing. Don't let your feelings get hurt if you get a lot of looker's and few buyers. I try to keep an assortment of one, three, and five dollar items on the table along with the higher priced items. Remember a lot of people at craft shows are lookers who are not their for large purposes. Many of them will take your card or brochure, and you'll be suprised at how many sales can come from one show. It's even better if you set up a website with links to pay online. There are a lot of places online where you can get free web space. Keep it up to date, and send the purchases out in a timely manner and you will see income start coming in.

  4. Step 4

Use online auctions to make even more money. Put your more expensive items on ebay or other auction sites. There is always a lot of hits on sites that ooak (original one of a kind) jewelry. Remeber to mention ooak on the title of the piece, so people know it's handmade.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you do the craft shows, bring your food with you. Food at craft shows tends to be horrible and expensive.
  • Check online for art and craft shows in your state.

on 6/8/2009 It is definitely a good idea to sit the more expensive items near some of the less expensive! If people are happy with your stuff then they will buy some of both!
