How to Replace a Kenmore Elite Washer Front Door Seal

If a dishwasher begins to leak around the door, chances are good that the rubber strip that surrounds the interior edge of the door, sometimes referred to as the "door gasket," needs to be replaced. Although the water may be exiting through cracks in the gasket, the more common reason is due to the gasket twisting and causing gaps between the gasket and the dishwasher's door. Kenmore is known for producing durable dishwashers, and its Elite series is among Kenmore's most popular models. However, even the Kenmore Elite model is not immune to gasket failure. Thankfully, replacing the Elite's door seal is a simple task.

Things You'll Need:

• Flathead screwdriver
• Soapy water solution

1. Pull out the lower dish rack.

2. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry up the metal tabs that hold the door gasket in place, then pull the gasket away from the door.

3. Soak the replacement door gasket in a soapy water solution for one hour. Soaking the gasket will serve to make it more pliable and to lubricate the gasket.

4. Install the new gasket starting at the center of the door to the ends by sliding or pressing the gasket into its track. Refasten the gasket's retaining clips as the gasket is installed by pressing each clip over the gasket to complete the installation.
