How to Unzip TGZ Files
TGZ files are the Linux and Unix equivalent of ZIP files in Windows. Free utilities are available that allow you to both create and unzip TGZ files. Zipping a file in the TGZ format allows you to turn a folder of files into a single compressed file for easier transport between computers and users. Documents, executables, photos, videos and audio files can be compressed to help you reduce file size while sending files through email, through a network share or on a flash drive.

Tips & Warnings
You can add or delete files in Quick Zip without having to unzip the TGZ file archive. You can also extract only the files you wish to edit.
Keep the original archive file until you're absolutely certain about any changes you've made to the unzipped version. This will give you a backup copy in the event of an accidental change or deletion.
