1
Determine if your daily planner fits your needs. A well-organized planner saves time and improves time-management skills. Binder-style planners should be organized with the most-used sections in the front and the least-used sections in the back. Fixed-style binders should have the most frequently used sections marked with a paper or binder clip for quick reference.
-
2
Clean out your daily planner. Planners record what you need to accomplish during a given day and should not contain papers, Post-its or other documentation unless they are relevant to the day's or week's events.
-
-
3
Color-code entries with highlighters in your daily planner that are frequent or important. Color coding allows for quick referencing, saves time and prevents you from missing important events.
-
4
Organize events in a daily planner according to time. By categorizing events by hour, morning, afternoon or evening allows you to reference events quickly.
-
5
Keep daily planner entries short. Each entry should contain the date, time, location and event. Any additional information should be recorded on a Post-it or separate piece of paper. Attach this information to the same page of the daily planner or store it in a section that is easy to access.

Tips & Warnings
Do not overuse color coding or Post-its. Instead of making events easier to reference, it will make organizing a daily planner more difficult.
