Step 1
OPEN START MENU
To find IP addresses, users should first open the Start menu. The Start menu in Vista is located in the same location as XP (lower left of desktop) and can be recognized by the Windows logo. Click the windows logo to open the Start menu. -
Step 2
OPEN CONTROL PANEL
From within the Start menu, click the "Control Panel" option. This should appear on the right hand side of the start menu. -
Step 3
OPEN NETWORK AND INTERNET
Within the Control Panel pop-up window (opened when you clicked "Control Panel" from the Start menu) click "Network and Internet". -
Step 4
OPEN NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER
To find IP addresses, you must use the "Network and Sharing Center" feature. Click that option (should be the top option) to activate this feature. -
Step 5
ACCESS CONNECTION STATUS
Within the Network and Sharing Center, you must access the status of your current connection. To do this, look below the icons representing your connection, to the network connection details. To the right of the CONNECTION description, click the "View Status" option. This should result in another pop-up window. -
Step 6
VIEW DETAILS
The details status of your connection should now be displayed in the resulting pop-up window. However, you will not find IP addresses listed in this section. To access the connection's IP address, you must click the "details" link. -
Step 7
VIEW YOUR IP
Your IP address should be displayed in the resulting window. The IP address is a series of numbers, separated in intervals by dots. Example: 555.555.5.5 (numbers will not all be the same).
