Things You'll Need:
- Vacuum
- Spray adhesive
- Volkswagen carpet kit
- Metal scraper
- Towels
- Adhesive remover
- Utility knife
-
Step 1
Remove the front seats of your Volkswagen by reaching under the front seat until you feel the spring that allows the seat to slide. Disconnect this spring. Slide the seat forward and up off its tracks to remove.
-
Step 2
Pull up the old carpet by wedging your scraper between the carpet and underlying flooring. By pushing your scraper into the glue and pulling the edges of the carpet in an upward motion you should be able to get all of the carpet removed.
-
Step 3
Vacuum the entire floor to remove any remnants left on the floor of your VW. Soak a towel in adhesive solution and place on top of any glue that remains on your floor. Let the adhesive remover soak on for 5 minutes, then wipe the flooring down with a wet rag.
-
Step 4
Lay the carpet pieces in place. VW carpet kits often come with seven to 10 pieces. Make sure all pieces fit on the floor. There will be overhang, but you will take care of this after the carpet is glued down.
-
Step 5
Starting in the rear of the car, spray the floor with adhesive, and then spray the underside of the carpet with adhesive. Press the carpet into place. Smooth any air bubbles with your hands. Continue until the entire floor is carpeted.
-
Step 6
When carpet is in place, use your utility knife to cut away any loose ends or overhang.
-
Step 7
Allow adhesion to set for 24 hours, then place the seats back in the car.
