How to Determine a Proxy Server

A proxy server is a third-party computer system. It acts as a go-between server that receives requests from the system users. The proxy server then applies validation filters to these requests and then connects you to the appropriate main server. Using a proxy server enhances security and can expedite retrieval. Sometimes proxy server protocol details are necessary in order for certain programs to run correctly. There are a few ways to make this determination.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the "Winsock Proxy Client" installation from "<your server>/msproxy." Run the setup file here, or run setup.exe from "\\<your server>\mspclnt share."

    • 2

Complete the installation. Open a command prompt window by going to the "Start" menu, clicking "Run," typing "cmd" and pressing "Enter."

    • 3

Type "cd" with a space after it into the command prompt window to change directories. Enter "server directory:\mspclnt," replacing "server directory" with the correct drive (which is typically "c:"). Press "Enter."

    • 4

Enter the command "chkwsp32 /f" and press "Enter."

    • 5

View the displayed message in the command prompt window, which will determine if the client application protocol corresponds with the existing server protocol.
