How to Cleanse Pores
There are pores all over the human body. They allow skin to breathe, release sweat and account for hair growth. Pores are essential for a healthy body and skin, but they can also become clogged and infected. When this happens, skin loses its smoothness and natural glow. The clogged pores stretch out and become visibly enlarged, resulting in an uneven tone for one's complexion. When pores become infected with bacteria, they can lead to inflamed and painful pimples. There are a number of ways to cleanse pores, and it might take several tries before you find the treatment that's right for you. Does this Spark an idea?

Mask Treatment
-
1
Make a natural exfoliating mask using egg whites, honey and lemon. Egg whites have been used for years as a home remedy to cleanse and tighten pores. Lemon is a natural astringent that will remove excess oil that can lead to clogged pores. Honey has antimicrobial properties to fight off the bacteria that clog pores.
-
2
Combine one egg white (beaten), one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of fresh-squeezed lemon juice in a plastic mixing bowl.
-
-
3
Use a spatula to stir the ingredients. For a very uniform mixture, use a mixer on low speed to blend the ingredients thoroughly.
-
4
Apply the mask all over your face, concentrating on areas with clogged or enlarged pores. Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse off. Use this treatment about two to three times a week.
Salicylic Acid Treatment
-
5
Apply a thin layer of salicylic acid or glycolic acid gel to chemically break down clogged pores. Clean & Clear, Neutrogena and Clearasil have several great salicylic acne products to choose from.
-
6
Leave on the treatment to absorb into your pores overnight. These acids help to slough off dead skin cells that crowd into pores and make them become clogged and enlarged.
-
7
In the morning, use a wet washcloth to scrub off the salicylic acid gel. Apply this treatment every night for best results.
Witch Hazel Treatment
-
8
Cleanse pores with witch hazel. This is a natural herb that is used in many skincare products to tighten and clean out clogged pores.
-
9
Purchase a bottle of witch hazel astringent. Add a drop of lavender or lemon essential oil to tone down the strong scent of witch hazel.
-
10
Apply a few drops of witch hazel astringent onto a cotton pad and rub onto your skin, concentrating on areas where the pores are most clogged. This treatment is gentle enough to use everyday.

Tips & Warnings
Clogged pores can be extremely stubborn so be patient when you try any treatment. Many of these treatments can dry out skin. Make sure to use an oil-free moisturizer to keep skin hydrated.
Avoid trying to extract your own pores at all costs. Chances are you will end up damaging, even scarring, your skin, so leave the extractions to the professionals.
