How to Install Mirrors on a Dodge Ram

Mirrors on the Dodge Ram are important for seeing behind you on either side and when backing up. Installing new mirrors does not have to require a trip to the auto body shop or the local repair station. If you're replacing a broken mirror or upgrading the mirror, you can save yourself money on labor charges by doing it yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • 10 mm nut driver
  • 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket set
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Small flathead screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door to the Dodge Ram and roll the window down. If it is a powered window, turn the ignition key to the off position afterward.

    • 2

Locate and remove the two screws at the bottom of the door panel with the Phillips head screwdriver.

    • 3

Remove the screw located in the upper corner of the door panel molding that covers the mirror from the inside.

    • 4

Locate and remove the screw behind the door handle, then use the nut driver to remove the bolt behind the door handle.

    • 5

Remove the door lock cover by prying it upward and out of the door panel using a small flathead screwdriver.

    • 6

Lift the door panel upward and pull it away from the door enough to get your hand in behind it and unplug the wire harness connections. Gently set the door panel aside.

    • 7

Unplug the wire harness running from the mirror to the panel control module (if the Ram has powered mirrors). Remove the three bolts holding the mirror to the door using a ratchet and a socket.

    • 8

Remove the mirror and replace it with the new mirror. Replace the three bolts and tighten. Plug the wire harness for the new mirror into the panel control module.

    • 9

Install the door panel by reversing the procedure. If the window is powered, test the mirror by turning on the ignition key. Replace the other mirror (if necessary) following the same procedure.

Very helpful instructions, thank-you! I had it replaced in record time! One point to note between steps 7 & 8: after undoing the three bolts, the mirror still wasn't coming off easily. Note that the wiring connector of the mirror actually snaps in to the hole on the door, so when I pulled it, the tabs broke off. Not a big deal if you are replacing the mirror, but could be avoided. Thanks again for the great info!
