How to Polish Gold at Home

Things You'll Need

• Jeweler's cloth
• Baking soda
• Toothbrush
• White toothpaste
• Mild dish soap
• Ammonia

Instructions

Several Simple Suggestions

1. Use a jeweler's cloth to gently wipe the gold free of any dirt, debris or tarnish.

2. Add a tablespoon of baking soda to a pot of boiling water and drop the gold in for 30 seconds. Take the gold item out and wipe it with a soft clean cloth or jeweler's cloth.

3. Coat the item with white toothpaste and gently work it in with a soft bristle brush or toothbrush. Use a soft clean cloth to buff the shine back.

4. Add two teaspoons of a mild dish soap to a quart of warm water and dip a toothbrush into it. Use the toothbrush to clean away any dirt or buildup on the gold and use a jeweler's cloth to polish.

5. Make a solution of one part ammonia to six parts water. Soak the gold in the solution for up to a minute. Dry the gold with a soft clean cloth and buff to shine.
