How to Install a Home Solar Screen
A broad range of devices can be considered solar screens. The Dictionary of Architecture and Construction defines one as "A nonstructural openwork or louvered panel of a building arranged so as to act as a sun-shading device." Solar screens work by simply blocking sunlight from entering your home, thus keeping it cooler. Most of these screens are made from rolls of polyester material, sometimes coated with PVC, placed in a conventional screen frame. Many newer windows have channels on the window frames for the screens to fit into. Check your windows for these channels before deciding on the type of screen. Does this Spark an idea?

Solar Screen Installation
-
1
Measure from the top side of the window's upper channel down to a sixteenth of an inch above the lower channel, which often extends out about one eighth of an inch from the window.
-
2
Measure the width from one inner edge of the window to one eighth of an inch short of the opposite inner edge. This allows room for installation. You now have the height and width of the solar screen.

-
3
Order to the nearest sixteenth of an inch from an online vendor, such as Quaity Solar Screen Co. Place the top of the screen in the upper channel, allowing the springs to snap tight.
-
4
Place the bottom of the screen into the window's lower channel. The bottom of the screen may have tabs, so make sure they fit into the lower channel, and it should snap into place.
