The easiest way to make a city map is to use a mapping software program with the built in tools and templates to make the job simple. Creating a city map will involve intricate detailing on your part and will require you to assign street names, highways, points of interest and more. Software programs allow you to enter this data in a much quicker manner for ready use in RPG software applications.

Instructions

1. Choose mapping software to create a city map. Although you can find numerous mapping programs available for download online, you can try the application from ProFantasy Software called City Designer. This program was especially designed for those interested in creating city maps for RPGs.

2. Use street building tools. In a city map software program, you can use the street builder app to design the different streets within your created city. Street builders will allow you to automate the type of housing on each street or you can customize the building types.

3. Specify the zones and districts of the city map. After you have designated the streets found within the city, you will want to separate them into different zones and districts. This will make locating a particular street and address within a city easier after you finish your city map.

4. Enter symbols for points of interest on your city map. Your mapping software will likely include various symbols to indicate areas of interest. Common symbols that you can place include schools, parks, hospitals and bodies of water.

5. Set the parameters of your city map. The parameters you set for a city map will include elevation, scale size and terrain type. After you have set the parameters, save your city map. Upload it into your role playing game or save it on your desktop for other uses.
