Step 1
Visit the Acer web portal to choose a base model (see Resources). Use "options" to the right of the screen to help narrow down your choices. Choices include Target User, Main Usage, Screen Size, Weight and Hard Drive Capacity. These will help reduce the selections to the left. You can change options at any time.
-
Step 2
Select options for the base model you chose. Options include memory, hard drive size, network options and processor. The more applications you want to run, the more memory you will need. Your processor will also need to be faster.
For users who only wish to browse the Internet and play audio and video files, a smaller hard drive and less memory will be needed. Home users wanting to edit photos, download music and have multiple users should choose a larger hard drive (at least 100GB), a moderate amount of memory (at least 1GB) and a medium-speed processor (at least 1.6GHz). If you have a dial-up connection, choose a modem. For wireless usage, a wireless card needs to be installed. -
Step 3
Select your operating system and software you want installed. Home users should choose the Home or Media Center edition, which provides features for music, audio and photos. Users wanting an Acer laptop for business should choose the Professional or Business edition operating system for features that help with email, networking and business productivity.

Step 4
Choose accessories. These include extra batteries, docking stations, cases and printers. Compatible accessories can be bought at any store that sells Acer products. You can also purchase accessories later on if you don't need them now.
-
Step 5
Review your choices. You can change any accessory or feature before your purchase. Your total price for all choices is listed on this page as well. Click "Submit Order" to place your order for your customized Acer laptop.
