Have you ever wanted to build a skateboard ramp but didn't exactly know how to do it? Well, I have, and I've done some searching online to find free ramp plans. I work with a local youth center that has a skate park, and I have built some of the ramps we use there. The picture shown in this step is from our skate park. Free Ramp Plans that I have found online have helped me know what to do. Your first step, then, is to get on your computer!

I have listed below some links to websites that offer free ramp plans. Some of these sites also offer plans for sale, but you don't have to spend money to get some decent plans. There are plans out there available for several different kinds of ramps. For instance, Xtremeskater.com has plans for a halfpipe, movable mini-ramp, launch ramp, and a grind box. Buildaramp.com has plans for a funbox, bank ramp, and a grind rail. Search some of the sites I have listed below and you will probably see something you like and something you would feel comfortable building.

Several of these sites also offer excellent building tips and advice. This was very helpful to me, as I knew nothing about ramp building when I took over the skate park. RampPlans.org offers some very good building tips. Check out their FAQ section, and if you are new to ramp building, you can learn a lot of good basic information. Freerampplans.cjb.net also offers several useful building tips. Take some time to explore the websites listed below and print off anything that you think would be helpful. Then,...,start building!

Tips & Warnings
Before you build a ramp of any kind, figure out as accurately as you can just how much wood you will need to complete your project. Wood is expensive, so you don't want to buy more than you need. Your time is valuable, so you don't want to waste it making extra trips back to the lumber yard, Menards, or Loew's because you didn't buy enough materials. Many of the free plan sites give you a materials list so you know exactly what you do need to buy.
For the most part, use galvanized wood deck screws to fasten your ramp together. Nails tend to loosen and back out of the wood due to the vibration that the skateboarders cause.
