Protect Against ATM Skimming
Protect Against ATM Skimming

You can protect against ATM skimming of you know how the scam works and what to look for. ATM skimming can cost you a lot of money if you fall victim to it and unlike credit cards where most of the time you get your money back if the card is stolen, it is not always quite as easy with ATM cards. This article will outline how to protect against ATM skimming.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first step is to avoid using ATM's that stand alone or are in dark places, these machines are more likely to be a target for ATM skimming because it is easier for the crooks to attach the skimmer to the machine without being noticed. An ATM machine located at a bank in a well lit area is much less likely to be targeted.

  2. Step 2

The second step is to never use an ATM machine that has any sticky substances on it. This can be a residue from the glue that crooks use to attach the skimmer to the ATM machine.

  3. Step 3

The third step is to conceal your hand as much as possible when you enter your PIN code at an ATM. This will thwart the effort of cameras that can be placed at the ATM to steal your PIN number as you enter it.
